Science Fiction Book Haul - New Additions to My Collection!

Thursday 1 February 2024 Banbury, UK

I'm always on the lookout for great new science fiction books to read, and I recently picked up three exciting titles to add to my collection. Here's a quick look at the new sci-fi books I've hauled lately.

Proxima by Stephen Baxter

Proxima by acclaimed British author Stephen Baxter is the first book I picked up. It's about the colonization of a new planet in the Proxima Centauri system. The story follows Yuri Eden, a Russian cosmonaut selected to be part of the historic mission to settle the planet Proxima Centauri b. This promises to be a sweeping sci-fi epic about humanity's expansion into the stars. Baxter is known for his grand-scale hard sci-fi tales, so I'm expecting a technically detailed look at space travel as well as intriguing alien environments on Proxima b.

Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky

Next up is Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky, which I've heard great things about. It's a unique take on a generation ship story, following the crew of a ship traveling to a distant planet to establish a new home for humanity. But when they arrive, they discover the planet has already been terraformed and inhabited by a new intelligent species evolved from spiders! The concept of spider-based civilizations ascending to intelligence sounds fascinating and different from typical sci-fi fare. I'm interested to see how human and spider societies clash in this award-winning novel.

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

Finally, I picked up Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, author of the hugely popular book The Martian. While plot details are scarce, I know this new sci-fi novel is about a lone astronaut on a spacecraft tasked with saving Earth. It sounds like an ingenious and suspenseful survival thriller set in space. And I loved the smart scientific detail and funny voice of The Martian's main character, so I'm excited to read more of Weir's writing. This one looks like an addictive page-turner!

That's my recent science fiction book haul! I'm really looking forward to reading these three novels. Have you read any of these sci-fi hits? What exciting new sci-fi books am I missing? Let me know your recommendations in the comments!
