If You’re Not Ready for Christmas, That’s Okay

Tuesday, 23 December 2025

It’s December 23rd, and if you’re feeling behind, overwhelmed, or quietly stressed, you’re not alone. This is the point in December where the lists are unfinished, the wrapping pile looks optimistic at best, and the idea of “being ready” for Christmas feels slightly out of reach. That doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It just means you’re human.

There’s a lot of pressure at this time of year to have everything perfectly organised. Perfect gifts, perfect food, perfect plans. But most of us don’t remember Christmases for how polished they were. We remember how they felt. The conversations, the laughter, the quiet moments, and sometimes even the chaos.

If time is tight, simplicity is your friend. Gift bags are just as thoughtful as carefully wrapped parcels. A handwritten note can mean more than anything bought in a hurry. Shop-bought food still counts, and one homemade touch is more than enough to make the day feel special. Christmas doesn’t need to be complicated to be meaningful.

Creating a festive atmosphere doesn’t take much either. A few lights switched on early, some music playing in the background, a candle or two in the evening. Small things can shift the mood without adding more to your to-do list.

Most importantly, try to let go of the idea that everything has to be done a certain way. Christmas arrives whether we’re ready or not, and it often turns out just fine despite our worries. What matters is rest, warmth, kindness, and giving yourself permission to slow down.

If today feels unfinished, let it be. Christmas is not a performance. It’s a moment in time, and it’s still waiting for you.

Happy Christmas and thanks for reading!
