It’s been a while since I’ve done a mood board and this summer I’ve been inspired by colour. Proper dopamine colour. I’ve been playing a lot with it. My wardrobe shifted from pink Cortez Nikes, Labubus charms and all sorts of colourful bag buddies hanging off my handbag, to pink tees and a green leopard print skirt. You name it, colour has been my summer mood.
I’ll be honest. Summer is my least favourite season. I’m not a fan of the heat or everything that comes with it, it give me 'anxiety' but that s another topic for another time. But the colours, the mix and match of prints and textures, they help me enjoy it a little bit. Not a lot, but enough to get through. Really I can’t wait for autumn because that is where I shine the most.
So what has been my vibe? Well… I’m almost ashamed to say it but I have never been a Crocs fan. I always found them gross. Those plastic shoes everyone wears, big and clumsy and surely uncomfortable. I imagined walking around in a puddle of foot sweat. Not pleasant.
But then I needed garden shoes. Something I could slip on easily, something practical, but with my toes covered because I hate having them on show. Crocs kept appearing in my searches. Eventually I decided to give them a go but I refused to pay the full brand new price tag so I went the Vinted route. I found a barely used white pair for less than £12, bought them and to my surprise they are comfortable. I don’t sweat in them and I love putting silly Crocs charms on them. Don’t worry, you will never see me wearing them outside my garden, but for home they are perfect.
I’ve been a lover of bag charms for a long time now and at this point it feels like part of my personality. All my handbags end up decorated daily. I never leave the house without at least one little character hanging off a strap. Some days it is my Labubus with his cheeky face. Other days it is a whole crowd of Pop Mart buddies, Miniso creatures or a Kenji friend dangling along for the ride. I like the way they make a simple handbag feel playful and alive. They add movement and colour and a bit of humour. Even on days when I wear something plain, the charms make the whole outfit feel more fun. They remind me not to take fashion too seriously. A handbag with a plush creature attached to it instantly feels more joyful and I enjoy that feeling every single day. It fits the summer mood perfectly because summer is the season where everything feels a bit lighter and a bit more colourful.
Jelly basket handbags have been on my radar for weeks. I remember having a blue one when I was a little girl and I wish I still had it. Technically I don’t have one right now because the style I’m searching for isn’t easy to find. My search is still ongoing and I will find one. It just needs to be large enough. So far the ones I’ve found are kids size and far too small. Oh and once I ll find it of course I will decorate it with all my silly trinkets and bag charms as you do ;)
Colourful bead necklaces and bracelets have been worn a lot. Some I made, some I purchased. They are fun, bright and perfect to wear on a sunny day. Not too hot please. Also they are affordable and easy to find and if you are talented with your hands making them seems the logical route. Go for it !
Leopard print skirts. To be honest I’ve always had them around. My collection is rather large. Green print, grey, natural tones, black. Not quite all the colours of the rainbow yet but close. A classic brown or grey leopard print skirt paired with a colourful oversized pink or yellow T shirt, a bright handbag and plush bag charms and you are set for a fun summer.
And that has been my summer. A mix of colour, comfort, nostalgia and a few unexpected discoveries. Nothing too serious, nothing too polished, just little things that made the hot days feel more bearable. I still prefer Autumn and I am counting the days until the air cools down and my favourite season arrives. But this summer had its charm. A bit messy, a bit loud, full of colour and tiny joyful details. Exactly the kind of mood board I didn’t expect but ended up enjoying anyway.
