Friday 4 March 2022

Original Title: A Court Of Thorns and Roses

Author: Sarah J.Mass

The story:

Feyre's survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – The forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator, and killing something so precious comes at a price...

My Though:

This is a book that I kept hearing about it and after watching a vlog from Allana Davison I decided it was perhaps time to give this book a go. I came out of it very happy to have chosen to read it and put me in a good position that I wanted, for sure, to purchase part 2 (A Court of Mist and Fury) of this series.

I find out in the middle of my reading, that this story is widely inspired by The beauty and the Beast and yes there are a few elements that may remind you of it but in all honestly, if I wasn't aware of this I would have not guessed it.

So the author created a world where humans and Faes are in a war. Feyre is human and she found herself living with Tamlin an immortal Fae since she has a debt toward him after killing one of his court member.

So yes as we know now the author reinterprets the Beauty and The Beast story so we know all that the story would have a romance story within it.

In all honestly, I am not into a romantic book or love story but I have to say that this part of the book was well written and make-believe in the romance between Tamlin and Feyre especially that at the beginning Feyre hates the immortals and their world she is a force to live in.

I found very interesting the small steps that Feyre took to change her visions of this world, she originally hate, and the small but progressive way she took to change her feeling toward Tamlin.

The author took her time, the beginning is slow but as you read chapter after chapter the story takes another speed level without losing the construction of the characters and story, and before you know it you are at 100% grip on every page and you most likely struggle to put the book down.

What about the characters:

Well written and I really feel attached to every single one of them.

I am very curious on what the following book have in store for me because this book end with a real conclusion and not really a cliff hanger kind of feeling which in a way is pretty good, even so we do realise that one of the character (Rhysand) will take much more importance in the following book. I m thinking a triangle love along with a war between human and eternals? Who knows what s in store for us...but either way I am pretty excited to start PART II.

In conclusion:

I highly recommend this book even so the beginning is a bit slow but half way there the story speed up without losing the story and as I mentioned earlier you'll struggle putting this book down until the very gripping end.

Two thumbs up for me.
